The Undertaker Early Life and Career

Mark William Calaway popularly known as The Undertaker was born on the 24th of March 1965 in Houston, Texas to Frank Compton Calaway (died July 22, 2003) and Betty Catherine Truby.

He is the last of five sons of his parents. His brothers are David, Michael, Paul, and Timothy. The Undertaker attended Waltrip High School and was a member of the school’s basketball and football teams.

The Undertaker graduated in 1983 before getting accepted to study at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas on a basketball scholarship.

He got accepted into the Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1985. During his time there, he studied sports management and played basketball for the Rams in the 1985–1986 season as a center.

The Undertaker dropped out of school in 1986 to lay more focus on his career in sports. He had considered playing professional basketball in Europe but then changed his mind to focus on professional wrestling.

A lot of people, especially kids, still believe he’s actually a deadman walking. Well, that could be true, or it could be a hoax or just something to spice up the show. But, whichever it is, one known and undeniable fact is that he is the Undertaker.

But, becoming the Undertaker wasn’t as easy as many would think as he struggled with acceptance during his tryouts for pro wrestling and no one showed any interest in him.

At first, it looked like it was because of his appearance, just huge and looking very simple. He had to train too many years before getting his first match in a local wrestling arena.

The Undertaker only got the opportunity to wrestle because he looked like the son of a famous wrestler of that time.

Subsequently, he made his debut for World Class Championship Wrestling under the moniker Texas Red(that was wack), before he joined WWF in 1989.

When he debuted in the WWF, he changed his name to ‘Kane the Undertaker’. After a while, he removed the ‘Kane’ and just went by the ‘Undertaker’.

However, the name ‘Kane’ was adopted by another wrestler, and the two would go on to become storyline brothers for many years in the WWF. Together, they were called the ‘Brother of Destruction’.

Later on, the Undertaker went on to become one of the most feared and undefeated wrestlers in the WWF(now WWE).

His career span over 27-years and he keeps on coming back, which is taken as one of the key points in his career. Why? Because every time the Undertaker comes back, people get confused by the amount of different persona that comes with each return.

Some times, he goes all evil, and other times, he’s a good dead man which made people start thinking there was more than one Undertaker.

But, from 2001-2003, people witnessed an end to his continuous changes and saw an all-evil Undertaker which was followed by Return of the Deadman from 2004 to 2007, which earned him the nickname “The Phenom” due to his impressive health and physique then before.

The Undertaker currently has the company’s longest consistently in-ring performance in the history of the organization.

Though prior to his most recent return back to the WWE, the Undertaker was famous for The Streak of 21 straight victories at WrestleMania which began on March 24, 1991, after he defeated Jimmy Snuka by Pinfall.

His long-held streak was broken by the ‘Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar at the WrestleMania 30, and the 2nd was against Roman Reigns. Yet despite his loss, he still made a return and won three more Wrestlemania fights and now his streak is 24-2.
