Park Jae-sang popularly known as Psy was born on 31 December 1977 to a wealthy family that lived in the father Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea.
Psy’s father Park Won-Ho, is the executive chairman of DI Corporation, a manufacturer of semiconductor manufacturing equipment listed on the Korea Exchange, while his mother, Kim Young-hee was the owner of multiple restaurants in Gangnam.
Psy grew up in Gangnam and attended the Banpo Elementary and Middle School, before proceeding to Sehwa High school.
He didn’t like school and was a popular class clown during his time in school. One of his former class teachers told South Korea’s Seoul Broadcasting System in an interview that, ‘I remember Psy making a lot of sexual jokes during class as he had an influence that would drive the entire class to his jokes. At that time, I despised him but looking back, I see that he added great energy to the class.’
Psy gained interest in music at the age of 15 after he watched a Korean TV Programme that introduced foreign pop music.
