Nick Cannon Life and Career
Nick was born on October 8, 1980, in San Diego, California. He didn’t grow up with his family because his parents parted ways at a younger age.
He started his career as a teen in the Nickelodeon TV series ‘All That’, which was aired from April 16, 1994, to October 22, 2005. Cannon ventured into comedy as he started stand-up comedy at 11, in his father’s local cable-access program.
In 1996, Cannon’s love for rap drove him to start up a rap group ‘Da G4 Dope Bomb Squad’. The group became a success, which later got him signed to Jive Records in 2001.
However, after his amazing success and delightful method of portraying a character of oneself; the producer of ‘All That’ was impressed by his acting skills which made them created ‘The Nick Cannon Show’ that was aired from 2002-2003 with just 27 episodes.
Nick Cannon explained in an interview how his partnership with Viacom elevated his career forward. When asked by Schawbel: ‘Apart from your TV shows and acting, many might not know about your relationship as the chairman of TeenNick for Nickelodeon. How did you get involved in this business relationship and what have you learned in the process?’.
Nick replied saying: ‘I have been a part of the Nickelodeon and Viacom family since I was 16 and started as the comedic warm-up for the audience on the live Nick Shows. And by the time I was 17, I was the youngest staff writer in TV history for Nickelodeon. I have always been given the opportunities to be on the forefront of the business, so in 2008 I presented the idea to let me run the Teen network and as usual, my Family at Nickelodeon took a shot on me and allowed me to be the chairman. However, it has been the greatest learning experience for me in this business and showed me the ropes on becoming a true entertainment executive’.
