Kyle Steven Edmund was born on the 8 of January 1995 In Johannesburg, South Africa to parents Steven and Denise Edmund.
His father, Steven, was born in Wales but raised in Zimbabwe and later lived in South Africa. Meanwhile, his mother Denise was from South Africa.
At age 3, Kyle moved to Britain and was raised in the village of Tickton near Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire. While growing up, Kyle loved swimming and playing cricket but soon switched to tennis when he was 10.

Kyle attended Pocklington School and Beverley Grammar School before he moved to Cannons in Hull to train with John Black at age 13. A year later, he and John Black moved to train at Win Tennis, based at the National Sports Center at Bisham Abbey, Berkshire.
