Judith Mary Erskine was born in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire to Eileen Shirley (née Edney) and Roy Erskine. Her parents were into sports especially football but she preferred lawn tennis and decided to pursue a career in it.

Joining the British tennis governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) gave her the opportunity of coaching many players in different cadres of lawn tennis division.
On getting the role of captain of the British Fed Cup team in 2011 improved her profile among female tennis coaches in the country but after five years resigned her position for someone else to occupy.
