Bobby Brown Early Life and Career 

Robert “Bobby” Barisford Brown was born on the 5th of February, 1969, in Boston, Massachusetts to parents Caroline Elizabeth and Herbert James Brown.

He was raised in Roxbury’s Orchard Park Projects. Bobby Brown first climbed the stage at the very young age of three when one of his childhood idols, the legendary James Brown, performed in Boston.

That performance sparked Bobby’s dream to become a singer and from there, he joined the church choir which helped him develop his singing abilities.

At the age of 9, Bobby started off his musical career in 1978  after he founded the pop music group ‘New Edition’ with his childhood friends; Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Travis Pettus, and Corey Rackley.

The group delivered spectacular performances in different talents shows which helped win them a recording deal with Maurice Starr’s Label. Thereafter, they released their debut studio album titled ‘Candy Girl’ in 1993.

The album sold millions of copies immediately after it’s released and spawned a number of hit singles such as “Mr. Telephone Man” and “Cool it Now”.

However, due to a series of controversies and disagreement within the group, Brown left the group in 1985 to focus on a solo career.

After his exit from the group, Brown signed a contract with his former group’s label, MCA. His deal with the label was sought of expected because he had earlier been promised a deal if he decided to leave New Edition.

He then worked with manager Steven Machat, who also worked with his former group, New Edition.

Eventually, Brown released his debut solo album “King of Stage” in 1986. The album had poor commercial success even though one of its single, ‘Girlfriend’ had a huge breakout on the charts.

In 1988, Brown released his sophomore album, ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ which enjoyed critical acclaim after its release with 5 of its singles listed on the Billboard 100. The album spawned singles such as “Every Little Step”, “Don’t Be Cruel”, and his signature hit “My Prerogative”.

The album sold over 12 million copies globally and was certified platinum 7 times by the RIAA. His success and incredible performances earned him his first Grammy Award for the best R& B vocal performance in 1990.

After that, Brown released three more albums titled; “Bobby” (1992), “Forever” (1997), and “Masterpiece” (2012).

Bobby Brown has also made a number of movie appearances over the course of his career.

He made his debut acting in the 1989 comedy-thriller ‘Ghostbusters II’. Other notable roles include “A Thin Line Between Love And Hate” (1996), “Go For Broke” (2002) and “Nora’s Hair Saloon” and its sequel (2004, 2008).

However, between 2012 and 2013, Brown was arrested for DUIs and underwent treatment in rehab for alcohol abuse.

His daughter with ex-wife Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown died July 26, 2015, at age 22 after she was found unconscious in her bathtub at her residence in Roswell, Georgia.

She was reported to have low brain activity and was later transferred to Emory University Hospital.

After doctors concluded that significant brain function was unlikely to occur, Bobbi Kristina was removed from the ventilator and put in the care of Hospice in Duluth, Georgia before her imminent death.
